HVCH celebrates National Hospital Week

LOGAN – As we celebrate National Hospital Week, Hocking Valley Community Hospital would like to recognize the 346 men and women who work tirelessly every day to provide high-quality, compassionate care for our patients and families. Each member of the hospital family: physicians, nurses, therapists, food service personnel, engineers, and volunteers are committed to keeping healthcare close to home, now and into the future.

“A hospital is more than a place where people go to heal. It is part of the community that fosters health and represents hope and trust. From providing treatment and comfort to the sick, to providing healthcare education and training, hospitals are central to a healthy and optimistic community. This could not be truer for Hocking Valley Community Hospital,” Julie Stuck, HVCH president and CEO, said.

HVCH is an integral part of Hocking County. It provides nearly 5 million dollars annually in uncompensated care to those who cannot pay. This makes Hocking Valley Community Hospital one of the largest, if not the largest, charitable organization in the county. In 2016 alone, this hospital performed more than 7,000 non-invasive cardiac procedures, completed 180,000 lab tests, dispensed over 360,000 doses of medication and performed more than 1,500 surgeries all while maintaining a zero percent surgical infection rate.

There were more than 32,000 patient visits to the Emergency Department and Urgent Care in 2016, which included at least one patient from all 88 counties in Ohio and from 41 states in the union. There were more than 3,500 patient visits and more than 1,600 pain relief procedures done in the Pain Management Clinic.

“Not only are the employees at Hocking Valley hard at work in the hospital, many volunteer their time, talent, and their own funds to make Hocking County a better place to live. Many go to local elementary schools to provide healthcare education to our children on subjects such as the importance of hand hygiene, healthy food choices, how to properly dress in cold weather and basic emergency care.

Hospital employees participate in the annual school supply drive and provide new toys yearly during the Toys to Share initiative. Recently, employees pledged their own dollars and participated in activities that will help pay for equipment to open a third surgical suite. This will allow the hospital to provide more timely and convenient surgical services to the patients of this area,” Stuck said.

“We all know there are many changes, both known and unknown, happening in the healthcare industry,” Stuck continued. “One thing is for sure, it’s not easy to work in healthcare, but there is nothing on earth more rewarding. Our employees, your friends and neighbors, selflessly give of themselves everyday to their patients, to this hospital, and to the community. They are truly ‘The Healing Heart of Healthcare.’”

HVCH is a critical access non-profit hospital with an emergency department, urgent care and a wide variety of clinical, specialty and outpatient services. For more information, contact the Community Relations office at (740) 380-8336.
