Our Surgery department offers many different specialties, from general surgery, urology, gynecology, orthopedics, and podiatry to gastrointestinal services in our endoscopy room and three modern surgery suites. The nursing staff in the surgery department is all trained in advanced cardiac life support and are able to function in multiple areas within the department. Teamwork is this department’s motto.
The Outpatient Surgery department provides personalized preoperative and postoperative nursing assessments and discharge instructions while including the patient and the patient’s family. Each patient is provided individualized education and assessed personally by a registered nurse. This department strives to make each patient feel very satisfied that both theirs and their family’s needs are met.
IV / Chemotherapy
Our Outpatient Intravenous / Chemotherapy department provides services such as IV infusions, chemotherapy, PICC line insertion and care, port draws, and injections. The specially trained Registered Nurses with a combined 91years of experience in this department are chemotherapy certified and take pride in getting to know their patients on an individual basis as they provide a very “hometown” feel.
Southeast Ohio Joint Center Program
Our orthopedic program is centered on lowering anxiety and promoting healing through education and support. We realize that if you are considering joint replacement, it is only natural to wonder what to expect.
The Southeast Ohio Joint Center program offers comprehensive education starting with information about arthritis, injuries and other joint-related medical issues. Patients and their caregivers go through as a team. Some will have surgery. Others will be evaluated and our team will develop a program for treatment and rehabilitation to extend or maintain the fullest possible range of motion and functional strength. If surgery is needed, each participant receives a manual to help guide him or her through the program.
The Southeast Ohio Joint Center program team includes a joint center coordinator, physicians, registered nurses, physical and occupational therapists, operating room technicians, and social workers.
In our preoperative Joint Center class, the team prepares you for surgery. They provide education, help with any arrangements and plan your personalized pre-op and post-op program.
Joint replacement patients, their families and the Joint Center team get together prior to surgery to get acquainted and to begin to prepare for the event. Each patient participates in an educational presentation and receives a full explanation of his or her own case, including a guidebook that covers the entire process from beginning to end. Family members learn to become “trail guides” and play an important role in support as the patient is on their road to recovery. Even after surgery, patients, trail guides and medical specialists support each other during rehabilitation through encouragement, fellowship and social interaction.
During their hospital stay, the program sponsors group luncheons after which participants and their trail guides learn more about our program and are given the opportunity to talk to other joint replacement patients.
The results and reality for most patients is increased mobility and range of motion, less (if any) pain during normal activity, and greatly improved quality of life. Being able to move around comfortably and freely helps make most patients more active which improves physical stamina, emotional outlook and promotes a healthy lifestyle.
