HVCH announces new quality-based accreditation from DNV-GL

DNV Accredited HospitalHocking Valley Community Hospital announces the successful completion of its new accreditation process from DNV GL - Healthcare. By earning accreditation, HVCH has demonstrated it meets or exceeds patient safety standards (Conditions of Participation) set forth by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

All hospitals are required to be accredited in order for their organizations to receive payment from federally funded Medicare and Medicaid programs. Accreditation ensures high-quality outcomes to the patients and communities the hospital serves. These standards are imperative when individuals and families make critical healthcare decisions.

HVCH is now dually accredited from both DNV GL and the Joint Commission. DNV GL’s accreditation program is the only one to integrate the ISO 9001 Quality Management System with the Medicare Conditions of Participation.

“We are excited to have an accreditation with DNV because they focus on quality and process improvement,” HVCH Chief Nursing Officer Beth Kluding commented. “Utilizing ISO 9001 standards, we will be able to establish and maintain a strong infrastructure for efficient, safe, and quality care.”

The ability to integrate ISO 9001 quality standards with clinical and financial processes is a major step forward for HVCH, and allows three years from the date of its accreditation to achieve compliance with ISO 9001, the world’s most trusted quality management system used by performance-driven organizations around the world to advance their quality and sustainability objectives.

“DNV helps to identify any ‘nonconformities’ that may exist in our hospital system, and encourages us to apply this thinking to every part of the organization. This includes not only our direct patient care areas, but our purchasing, food services, and plant operations departments,” Kluding said.

“We have taken an entirely different approach to accreditation, and hospitals are really responding,” DNV GL - Healthcare CEO Patrick Horine, said. “Since accreditation is a must-have credential for just about every hospital in this country, why not make it more valuable, and get more out of it? That’s where ISO 9001 comes into play, and turns the typical get-your-ticket-punched accreditation exercise into a quality transformation.”

DNV GL’s accreditation program, called NIAHO® (Integrated Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations), involves annual hospital surveys – instead of every three years – and encourages hospitals to openly share information across departments and to discover improvements in clinical workflows and safety protocols. DNV GL helps hospitals achieve excellence by improving quality and patient safety through managing infection risk, management system certification and training.

DNV GL is a world-leading certification body that helps businesses assure the performance of their organizations, products, people, facilities and supply chains through certification, verification, assessment, and training services. The DNV GL Group operates in more than 100 countries with a staff of 16,000. For more information about DNV GL hospital accreditation, visit www.dnvglhealthcare.com.
