When Should I Seek Wound Care?
Contact your healthcare provider if you have a wound that:
- Is not healing or is taking longer than expected to heal
- Shows signs of infection
- Continues to drain or bleed
- Becomes increasingly painful
- Develops redness, swelling or warmth
- Is associated with diabetes
- Develops because of pressure or limited mobility
- Keeps returning after treatment
Early attention can be important when caring for a difficult-to-heal wound.
Your Healing Is Our Focus
Effective wound care involves more than treating the wound itself. Our team considers your overall health and the factors that may be affecting your ability to heal. Treatment may include specialized wound dressings, infection management, debridement, pressure relief and other therapies based on your individual needs. Because proper nutrition is critical in the treatment of many wounds, our dietary department can assist those individuals for whom improper nutrition plays a role in the development of a wound. As part of the treatment program, all patients are educated about the healing process. When a patient feels comfortable with the steps necessary to help in healing, they understand how to prevent further problems.
We also work with your other healthcare providers when appropriate to coordinate care and support the best possible outcome.
If you have a wound that isn’t healing as expected, don’t wait. Talk with your healthcare provider about whether specialized wound care may be right for you.
